Prohibition in Milwaukee

As the beer capital of America, Milwaukee felt the impact of Prohibition more powerfully than most US cities. The long national drought shut down a major industry, deprived the city of both jobs and tax revenue, and forced ordinary citizens to the wrong side of the law. The fourteen-year dry spell was by turns destructive, infuriating, and hilarious, and I’ll cover all the dimensions of the “noble experiment” in Brewtown.
