Polish Workers and the Eight-Hour Movement of 1886

June 17th, 2018

In 1918 Poland became an independent nation again after more than a century of subjugation to foreign powers. That makes 2018 an important centennial year, but Poles had already been struggling for a different kind of independence in America. I’ll be talking about their participation in the Eight-Hour movement of 1886, a watershed development in Milwaukee’s history that ended in both tragedy and hope. The program is free with Polish Fest admission .
